Works better than I expected

I got this book expecting to get a little insight on building a computer, but I never expected the book to be as thorough and understandable as it was. After reading this book, I was able to select parts to build my computer myself. I was able to make sure the parts were compatible and I only needed to use this book as a reference once or twice. The book explains each part necessary to install, including optional parts such as the sound card. Safety was emphasized frequently throughout the book to remind the reader to “ground” themselves before tinkering with the computer parts.

Great reference …. especially for anyone with older PC’s or anyone who wants to understand what their tech is talking about.

Shipped quickly. Book and DVD in great shape. The technology in it is out of date at this point, but the computers that i have were built around the same time this was written so, for me, it is an excellent resource. I’d like to build my own PC, but even if i don’t, it will help me to understand what my PC’s “doctor” is talking about …. and may help me to make some of the repairs and upgrades myself. It will also be an excellent foundation for any up-dated PC i might want to build and/or purchase. Excellent reference. (Wish they’d write an updated version, but that would be very difficult to do with the rate technology changes.)

Great reference book..

I bought this book, along with “Fix Your Own Computer For Seniors For Dummies” for my ADHD daughter to learn how to repair her own computer. With ADHD, it is always difficult to keep her attention long enough for her to learn something. But with both of these books as reference tools, she recently built her own gaming computer!

“Build Your Own PC for Dummies,” written by Mark Chambers, takes you through the entire process of building a PC from the ground up, from “Why would I build my own PC anyway?” to determining what kind of machine you should build to what components you will need to actual assembly to maintenance and upkeep.

Plain and Simple How To Do It

With a title like “Dummies” this book lives up to its name. You want to know how to build a computer. This book and the accompanying videos make doing that as easy as mixing and baking a batch of cookies. Of course, you get a few more options (sort of like walnuts or sprinkles) so you have to read about the options and you get some of the author’s humor to go with it. I would have preferred a more straightforward technical manual on that count, but the book works and will probably turn out to be what most people expect for presentation.

Great introduction and written in a easy to understand style

I’ve worked with PCs for over twenty years, but it’s been ten-plus years since I had a need to look inside one other than to add the occasional RAM chip. I decided its time to replace my PC and was disappointed at the configuration options available from Dell,HP, and Sony, so I decided to consider building one with my specific wants in mind.

Best read before you even start to build a computer

As this product is not up to date it does give me some insight as to what to expect when I go to build my own computer. The video was extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend this book to another person to read before building a computer.

Good advice for novices.
